While the World Cup this year may end up being the most watched event in the history of television (estimates say 800 million people are watching), I have found the tournament so far disappointing. What happened to all the goals? Here are some theories.
It’s unfortunate that the tournament has been a let down so far. You can’t tell me otherwise. Most games have been ties, usually 1 goal a piece, or a team has won 1-0. Call me old fashioned, but I want to see some goals! There are many possible reasons for this drought in scoring.
In this World Cup, FIFA has introduced a new soccer ball that is supposed to be faster and more unpredictable with its trajectory. Maybe it is giving players too much unpredictability.
Defensive effort. Are most teams stepping up on their defense this year? It is possible. This could explain a lack of scoring opportunities.
I don’t know if it’s an American thing, but every soccer fan I have spoken to cannot stand the noise makers. If we as viewers are constantly distracted by the sound, how can the players not be? Plus, I don’t see how it benefits either team, it’s a pretty constant noise flow.
The climate. Seeing as this is the first World Cup in Africa, it is possible that the climate change is affecting the players. Ironically enough, the weather has been freezing with heavy rain at times in this African hosted tournament.
That is not to say that there haven’t been great moments in the tournament. Just earlier today, Spain, a heavy favorite, was defeated by Switzerland. Spain was expected to be a contender for the title, which will now be a difficult task.
Unfortunately for the host country, they most likely will not see the second round. At the time this article is written, South Africa will have to beat France by a considerable margin in order to keep their tournament hopes alive. At least the country is bringing in money.

There’s no denying that there is a multitude of useful information on the internet. Unfortunately, there is also a great deal of incorrect information as well.
It sometimes seems like an impossible task to separate the good information from the bad, especially when you’re looking at material that was recently posted in an effort to jump up the search engine rankings.
If you find yourself still confused after reading an entire article or website, you’ve probably stumbled upon some poor information. There are a few different ways of classifying this kind of material online; let’s look at these classifications.
Deliberately False Information – Occasionally when browsing Wikipedia, you may stumble across a page that has been locked. Wikipedia’s administrators often take this precaution for the pages of celebrities who are making controversial news or have just passed away.
Wikipedia’s administrators lock pages when there are too many edits coming in that present false information. This is especially common for the pages of celebrities with poor reputations, which often have derogatory information posted on them. Visit the page of a controversial celebrity and look at the edit history; you’ll almost definitely see some of these edits.
Unintentionally False Information – Everywhere you look online, you’ll find someone claiming to be an expert and sharing his or her secrets. While they may not be trying to intentionally mislead you, they’re often not 100% correct.
Be especially wary of self-proclaimed experts online. Always check the facts behind their claims before believing anything you read. Many of these individuals are simply trying to make money, and although they may not even be aware that their claims are false, they can still easily mislead you.
Still, don’t start thinking that it’s impossible to use the internet to obtain useful information. However, it’s important to do some extra research on the information you find and make an attempt to get your information from the most reputable sources. Some websites offer better information than others, and you should stick with the ones that take extra care to back up their claims.
