How is answering the question of “where are you” destroying your civil liberty? If you want to use it, it’s there. If not, Google isn’t forcing you to use it at gunpoint.
I think Google just needs to broaden their privacy settings, such as having more detailed control over accuracy for each contact. I think Google also should allow users to choose update interval (having GPS on drains my phone battery). But overall, I think it’s a cool service that people have been waiting a long time for.

We are researchers studying peoples attitudes towards Google Latitude. If you have heard of Google Latitude (whether you have used it or not) and are at least 18 years old, we would like to talk with you. Please email us back at: ucistudy[at]ics[dot]uci[dot]edu
We are conducting this research under the Institute for Software Research at the University of California, Irvine.

Why does everyone think that they are being tracked beyond their will? The only people that can see where you are are people who you have added to a list. It’s not like everybody can see where you are using Latitude, only people can see where you are that YOU let them.
Please STFU with all this tracking shit.
